Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year
Welcome to the wonderful world of Science.
In science this year, we are working on:
My philosophy about teaching Science is based around making learning fun. I believe in combining lectures, power point presentations, cooperative learning groups, independent research, individual- and group-inquiry, and science experiments to create a Hands-On Science Program.
Throughout the year, we will have weekly labs to help reinforce what is learned through the week and the unit.
In my class, your child will be required to:
● Keep notes, Participate in whole class- and small group- discussions, Keep an organized spiral notebook,
Use science equipment appropriately, Read the assigned readings before coming to class, Complete homework when assigned and turn it in on time (no late work, besides an excused absence, will be accepted), Study for and
complete all quizzes and tests, And explore through science experimentation.
The students will be expected to:
● Complete all class work and homework assigned when DUE,
● Complete all of the readings assigned when DUE,
● Attend everyday of class unless they are participating in a school-sponsored activity or are unfortunately ill,
● Study and be prepared for pop-quizzes,
● Study and be prepared for all tests,
● Keep an organized notebook that will be checked for a grade periodically,
● Complete the majority of their independent Science PBL project at home,
● And come to class prepared to learn and participate with a textbook, their science notebook, their, paper, pencil, and homework each day.
Since Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School students are a step above all others, I am sure your child
will easily meet my expectations.
Welcome to what hopes to be the best year yet! You have entered a class of learning.

About Your Teacher
I'm the 7th grade Science teacher at Rose Park Magnet Middle. I've taught Science/Math for 12 years. I have a B.S. from MTSU and M.Ed. from Texas Southern University and I am ABD in my EdD program at the University of Houston.
Ms. Porter was born and raised in Nashville and attended MNPS schools. After living and teaching in Houston, TX for several years, I am glad to be back in the Nashville area.
I am a huge football fan and I enjoying volunteering and giving back to the Nashville community.
One Hundred Years From Now
It will not matter
what kind of car I drove,
What kind of house I lived in,
how much money was in my bank account
nor what my clothes looked like.
But the world may be a better place because
I was important in the life of a CHILD.
